POST-TRAVEL BLUES

you guys, you have no idea how much i miss being on my travels.

cafe Take 5 Minutes in Paris, Antwerp

i'm going to put together my travel posts someday, when i get around to it, but tonight as i was watching some video blogs on YouTube (the main culprits would be FunForLouis and the VagaBrothers - go and check their videos out, they're both phenomenal channels), i felt a sudden yearning to be wandering cobblestone streets and gazing up at buildings that are centuries-old again.

Melbourne, from Sebrina's apartment

yeah, don't get me wrong, i currently live in a wonderful city this side of the planet, which prides itself as being truly multicultural, i mean, for example just last week or so there was a Japanese food festival AND a Greek food festival being held on the same weekend, and different suburbs chock-full of various diaspora communities. Europe really is a stone's throw away, in regards to cultural proximity.

but man. there's just something about hearing a different language being spoken all around you, and seeing how their culture, their city, differs from your own - Madrid for instance, is amazing - life there is slow, and people never seem to sleep at night, and the vibe is just so amazing.

tapas and a mug of beer while people-watching in Segovia

i also miss being able to step out of your hostel for the day and not having to worry about obligations - i usually planned something, like one or two things that i'd like to get done on that day, but if they didn't work out, fine, i'd go and do something else! if i wanted a lazy day in in my bunk - and if i could afford it, time-wise, i'd be fine to do that too. here, i have obligations like university and my social life, or what's left of it, because i quit drinking at the start of the year and i've truly never felt better health-wise, but EVERYTHING seems to revolve around alcohol in this city and it's starting to drive me bonkers.

there's a ton of things i miss, but let me lament about those in said future travel posts... and yes i promise they will come... eventually!

xx winnie
