it's no secret that i might have a slight scented candle obsession. half the time i'm at The Curve for the gym and have a little time to kill before my class starts, i head to Bath & Body Works like a bloodhound and proceed to sniff every candle in the store.
their three-wick scented candles have achieved almost cult status amongst YouTuber beauty gurus and candle aficionados, so i was keen to get my mitts on a few of my own, but the steep prices deterred me from spending my money on one just yet........... until now.
last week i got an e-mail in my inbox saying that there was a sale on and that some of their Christmas candles were going for 50% off their full price. HALLELUJAH.
yesterday i had a little bit of time after my jam class so i headed on over and instantly picked out two to try: a three-wick Gourmet Espresso candle and a Buttercream Icing one.
i'll admit i've started burning them both already this morning, one after the other.
the Gourmet Espresso candle doesn't just smell like coffee- it has a tinge of dark chocolate notes to it as well. it instantly filled up my room with the scent within minutes of lighting it and i couldn't be happier. it reminds me of being in a cafe in Melbourne, though nothing can beat that pure roasted-bean coffee scent. i'd highly recommend it if you absolutely love the scent of coffee or dark chocolate. some might find it a little too sickly sweet for their liking. it's a good candle for a sitting room in the morning as you have your breakfast or when you're sitting down to cry at a good movie with a mug of hot chocolate in hand.
Buttercream Icing smells exactly like what it says on the tin. it doesn't smell as caramelly as the Glasshouse Tahaa, but it smells intensely sugary, just like vanilla-ed cupcake frosting. i absolutely love it. the scent throw is pretty good, it filled the room as soon as i lit it. it reminds me of the smell you get when you lift the cover on a box of cupcakes or glazed Krispy Kreme donuts if you mixed that with the smell of hot buttered popcorn. a brilliant scent for the kitchen if you're the type that loves baking but can't be bothered to because it's absolutely scorching around here to turn the oven on.
the only way that these candles pale in comparison to the Glasshouse candles is that their scent doesn't linger once they're put out. i just extinguished the Buttercream one not too long ago and i can't smell anything any more. but once they're burning it's a-ok. good, i guess, if you want a temporary scent filling your house just for a couple of hours but not have it stay if guests who don't like sweet scents are coming over!
all-in-all, i'd give these 3.5 out of 5 stars...... great to purchase if they're on sale, but skippable at full price.
